Dr Symons

Dr Greg Symons MB ChB, Dip PEC, FCP (SA), Cert. Pulm. (SA) completed his undergraduate training at UCT in 2000 and after having spent a year at Chris Hani Baragwanath Hospital, returned to the Cape to start his general physician training in 2003.

Prior to starting the general physician rotation, Greg spent a number of years involved with emergency medicine including volunteering with the Red Cross Air Mercy Service.

With the Fellow of the College of Physicians (FCP) certificate behind his name in 2008, he went on to complete his fellowship in Pulmonology and Critical Care in 2010 (Cert. Pulm.). Thereafter Greg remained involved with the Division of Pulmonology at Groote Schuur Hospital and established Cape Pulmonology with the help of Dr. Greg Calligaro. Greg does enjoy all facets of general medicine and his special interests include infectious diseases and the lung, particularly drug resistant tuberculosis along with sleep disordered breathing, lung cancer and pulmonary hypertension. Greg’s future plans include the development of a sleep center of excellence as well as a specialized center for lung cancer diagnosis and staging.
