Ass. Prof. Jonny Peter

Ass. Prof. Jonathan Peter MB ChB, MMed, FCP (SA), PhD completed his undergraduate medical training in 2000 and qualified as a specialist physician in 2009, both at the University of Cape Town. He was the recipient of a number of awards for medical training including the 2009 Suzman medal, which is awarded by the College of Physicians to the best candidate in the final specialist exams nationally.

 

He recently completed 2 years of sub-specialist training in Clinical Immunology and Allergy as a Nuffield Medical Fellow at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford, gaining experience in the management of primary and secondary immunodeficiency diseases, drug- and other forms of severe allergy, and autoimmunity. He received training in the interpretation of specialist immunological laboratory investigations, as well as the use of long-term immunoglobulin replacement therapy and other complex immunotherapies. In addition, having completed a PhD focused on TB diagnostics with the University of Cape Town Lung Infection and Immunity Unit, Jonathan also has a specialist interest in TB and other infectious diseases relevant to South Africa. He is currently continuing further allergology training locally under the guidance of Professor Paul Potter at the University of Cape Town.
